Friday 15th May

Sorry, this posting is a little later than normal.  I was fortunate enough last night to spend time with two of my very best mates who drove down from up home to have a game of squash with me and a couple of beers.

Ant, Dion and I headed over to the Panmure squash club last night after visiting hours at the hospital were over and I took great pleasure out of tying to smash the black of the squash ball!  It was great to put my thoughts and energy into a sport I really enjoy and almost feel normal for a few hours.  I am lucky to have such good mates, as Darryl is, as this website bears testament to.

Darryl was not quite as good today as what he was on Thursday as he was back inthe ’stormy’ weather.  Having said they the nurses and doctors are working hard to try and treat and prevent any episodes and they do seem to be reducing in severity and duration as the week has passed.

I should pay tribute to his entire medical team who are working really hard to do their very best for Darryl.  It makes a huge difference to have their support an collective skills and tuned into the goal we are all seeking.

Brenna is now becoming quite proficient at various elements of nursing care and Darryl, in his state of comatose still manages to bring a beaming smile to her face when he does a ‘thumbs up’ for her or blinks to her request.  We are blessed with 3 of the most loving and special children a parent could want.  I hope with all I have to hope with, that Darryl comes back to complete the wonderful package that define our lives and make it worth living.

A shorter entry today, I guess I just feel as calm as Darryl is looking at the moment.  And just for a moment I want to enjoy that sense of calm.

Thank you all for you ongoing support.

Mike

  • Mike, Catherine & Brenna,
Ron just called me and let me know about what happened and this site. No words I can say can express how much I wish I could give you all some comfort and strength to Darryl during this horrible time.
I read the blogs and it appears that Darryl is a fighter and will use the toughness imparted by his Dad and the love and support being given by all of your family and friends to work his way to recovery. I had a traumatic head injury ( not to this extent) and the support of your friends and family have a tremendous effect.
I wish I wasn’t so far away in California but if you need anything I will be on the next southbound plane.
Be strong and I love you all.
    Love & Respect,
    Max Houser

  • Mike

I was just contacted by Max and told about the recent injury to your son. I cannot put in words how bad I feel for you and your entire family. The one thing that makes this situation a little more bearable is knowing that he’s a Sabin. If he is anything like is parents, I can guarantee you he will beat this thing. If there is anything I can do, please do not hesitate to call. California is just a plane trip away. From all your friends in the states, I wish you, Catherine and Brenna the best. I will be praying for Darryls quick recovery. God Bless !!!

  • Hi Mike and Catherine, JUst checking in to see how you are going. Sounds like things improving a little more. Have heard about another local family who were in a similar position you are in a couple of years ago and their daughters thumbs up was the beginning of a very long but definate recovery process and she is back to herself now from what her friends have said. So I am hoping this is what will happen for Darryl too.
Glad to hear you got out and played some squash. Hope the guys didn;t go too easy on you. Give Catherine my love and remember to look after yourselves. Wayne says hi and he can’t wait to get Darryl back in the gym. Love Ula and Wayne
